Riding the Amtrak Hiawatha from Chicago to Milwaukee

I spend quite a bit of time on airplanes, but once in a while I get to mix it up and hop on a train as well, and one of my favorite routes is the Amtrak Hiawatha, which connects Milwaukee and Chicago.

Over the last 5 years I’ve ridden this train line many times, while visiting Fox 6 News in Milwaukee, a TV station that our company owns.

The Hiawatha is just such a nice, easy way to get from Chicago to either the Milwaukee airport or downtown Milwaukee that I can’t fathom going any other way;  driving would take longer (potentially much longer!) and flying isn’t really an option – I mean, there are flights that exist between ORD and MKE but, in the words of Sweet Brown, ‘ain’t nobody got time for that’ – and not taking the MegaBus or Greyhound.  🙂

I don’t really have any particular travel tips for the Hiawatha other than to try to get a seat facing the direction the train is moving, and to remember that it’s not like the L – all the doors don’t open at every stop – just one or two of them, so remember where you got on the train, because that’s where you’ll be getting off it as well.
